Repertory
Work that is still alive on our stages. Some of it a year old, some of it nearly thirty.
Güevos rancheros
Northern Mexican farce with songs, one act · 70 minutes · performed in Spanish
Two puppet figures from the Sonoran sierra narrate, with songs, the contemplative life of Mundo, who will not get out of his armchair, and of his mother Doña Jesusita, who breaks her back while indulging him. Then Vanesa arrives from the capital, passing through in search of nature and of herself.
It premiered in August 1995, the year the company was founded, and is still alive thirty-one years later: today it plays in short anniversary runs and by private booking.
Written and directed by Sergio Galindo.
Hamlet, Prince of Sonora
Shakespeare through clown · 70 minutes, one act · all ages · performed in Spanish
Clowns attempt tragedy, and may reach the heart of the drama precisely by refusing solemnity. Six performers in old-fashioned clown makeup play every character, break the fourth wall and show the audience the attempt itself. The story is left intact: a king dies, his brother marries the widow and takes the throne, and the son comes home to bury his father and finds the party already under way.
It opened on May 9, 2025, performed free of charge on La Cachetona, our mobile stage, before moving to the open-air venue. It is the third in a line of Shakespeare productions the company has sustained for years and continues: King Lear premieres in July 2027. Before this one came Andrónicus and Romeo and Juliet.
Direction, set, lighting and video by Paulo Galindo. Sound design by Miguel Hernández.
Fruncidos
Comedy · 90 minutes · performed in Spanish
Two old men from the sierra, both recently widowed, are forced through a crisis that shakes their health, their memory and their friendship. Between grievances and recollections, the play holds that even at its hardest, humor remains a way to survive — and to love.
Written by Sergio Galindo, directed by Paulo Galindo, and performed by Jesús Ochoa and Sergio Galindo.
Romeo and Juliet: Love in the Time of TikTok
Comedy · 110 minutes · performed in Spanish
A long-established theatre company sets out to stage one of the great classics. The difficulty of the production, the demands on the actors and their own quarrels over who gets the lead turn a tragedy into an involuntary comedy.
It premiered in 2024 and has passed 100 performances. The second work in the company's continuing line of Shakespeare productions.
La hora del Bacanora
Comedy · 80 minutes · performed in Spanish
A journey through the Sonoran sierra in which oral tradition, verse and humor build a series of scenes. Modeled on the pasos of Lope de Rueda, it portrays life, conflict and identity in the north, with bacanora — the region's agave spirit — as a symbol of memory, resistance and celebration. A dog, witness and critic, links the stories with irony.
It has played at the Centro Cultural del Bosque in Mexico City. It returns for a new season in March 2027.
Written by Sergio Galindo.
Noches de Variedá
Cabaret · 75 minutes · performed in Spanish
A night of clown, magic and live music with the company's resident ensemble: a gallery of endearing, ridiculous, unmistakably Sonoran characters, each with an act, and songs falling between the tricks. An old-fashioned variety night, made for uncomplicated laughter.
Opening season October 2 to 31, 2026, at La Galería. Directed by Chucho Díaz. Supported by México en Escena — Artistic Groups, Mexico's Ministry of Culture.
Crecer
Theatre for early childhood · ages 0 to 3 · non-verbal
A solo piece about the experience of growing, built from sensory exploration rather than from a script: here the dramaturgy is made in the rehearsal room, out of how children this age perceive and explore. Why do things change? Does everything grow the same way? Do my toys grow? Does my pet grow? It premiered in 2022 and is available on request — for schools, libraries and community centers — rather than in open season.
A coproduction with Colectivo de Teatro en Espiral. Directed by Michelle Guerra, performed by Gabriela Ainza.
Much of this repertory comes from one pen. Sergio Galindo, the company's resident playwright, wrote Güevos rancheros, Fruncidos and La hora del Bacanora. He holds Mexico's Carlos Monsiváis National Literature Prize (2012) and the Xavier Villaurrutia Medal (2016).
The house also sustains a line of Shakespeare productions — Andrónicus, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet — continuing with King Lear in July 2027. Andrónicus can no longer be revived, which is why it is not listed above: this page carries only work that is still alive.
